Finding a Cure for ALS
About ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)
The ALS Association Oregon and SW Washington Chapter
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that slowly robs a person of the ability to walk, speak, swallow and, eventually, breathe. With no known cause or cure, a person can typically expect to live 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS has no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries, and in only 10% of cases there is a family history of ALS. Today, there are approximately 30,000 people in the US living with ALS and 5,600 people are diagnosed each and every year in the US.
The Oregon and SW Washington Chapter of The ALS Association provides support and resources for people living with ALS, their families, and caregivers living in the State of Oregon and the six counties of Southwest Washington.

When Dan Berry was diagnosed with ALS, he shared with his friends/former teammates, Eric Davenport and Carl Tuma, that he'd like to see a waterpolo tournament come together for high school students to share in his love for the sport of waterpolo. TEAM DAN BERRY was created with the purpose of creating an invitational water polo tournament to honor a past player, Dan Berry, class of 1983, David Douglas High School Water Polo Team, who battled Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
All proceeds will be donated to ALS research and development facilities.
